Ash Barty's Retirement
Ash Barty's Retirement at 25 years of age
"I don't have the physical drive, the emotional want and everything it takes to challenge yourself at the very top level anymore. I am spent" is what Ash said as she announced her retirement from Tennis weeks after winning her third Grand Slam title.
It is super rare in sports to retire at the peak of ones career. Ashleigh Barty is formally saying good bye to the sport from World No. 1 position which she has held for the last 3 years. (end-year rankings)
She has 15 titles to her name with 3 Grand Slams - French Open(2019), Wimbledon(2021) and her home title Australian Open(2022). The last one being extra special to her as she becomes Australia's first home champion in last 44 years.
Ashleigh's retirement surely highlights the shift in priority in large portion of people - from purely economic well-being to holistic and sustainable well-being. It's high time to understand how much is enough and understand factors apart from finances which keep us motivated in our profession.
Hooroo Ash! and all the best in whatever you decide to do next.
